An important trend in the adhesives industry is end-users’ growing use of finite element analysis (FEA) to design bonded structures. This trend is driven by the fact that FEA is generally faster than physical prototyping and testing. However, one significant challenge engineers face is that adhesive materials often have complex mechanical behavior that can be difficult to capture in a simulation.
In this webinar on Advanced Testing and Simulation of Bonded Structures, hosted by the Adhesives and Sealants Council, Dr. Oliver and Dr. Grindy discussed how the adhesives industry can better support design engineers working with adhesives. They shared methods for characterizing the mechanical behavior of adhesive materials and adhesive joints to take greatest advantage of FEA. They identified different strategies for modeling adhesive joints and discussed the pros and cons of each. Finally, they discussed how adhesive suppliers can support customers in their FEA efforts.
The webinar took place November 15, 2023.
