Experimental Solid Mechanics Consultant

Veryst Engineering is seeking an engineer to help grow our experimental mechanics consulting practice.  This role involves the design and execution of custom material and product testing experiments to support clients from a wide range of industries including consumer electronics, energy storage, medical devices, and automotive.  Responsibilities also include the selection and calibration of constitutive models for FEA, so experience with Abaqus, Ansys Mechanical, and/or LS-DYNA is a plus.  Additional important responsibilities include providing clients with design recommendations, project management, report writing and presentation preparation, document review, business development, and marketing of technical services.

Position requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar with some industrial experience preferred
  • Strong academic record and references
  • Experience developing and executing mechanical experiments to characterize materials
  • Experience designing and executing mechanical experiments to validate simulation results
  • Experience using digital image correlation (DIC) and data acquisition systems
  • Experience designing and building test systems and fixtures for custom test applications
  • Familiarity with thermal property measurement a plus
  • Working knowledge of Ansys Mechanical and/or Abaqus is a plus
  • Engaging verbal/written communication skills and the ability to interact comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineers on a range of projects that require a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical content well, including ability to prepare presentations, reports, and publications that clearly communicate complex ideas, designs, and results
  • Ability to work well both self-directed and within a team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
