Adhesive Testing and Material Model Calibration for FEA of Bonded Joints

Free, One-hour Webinar

In this free, one-hour webinar, we will share the basics of how to develop material models for adhesives to be used in commercial finite element analysis (FEA) codes.  We will cover both continuum material modeling and cohesive zone modeling.

Course Instructor

Mark Oliver, Ph.D., is a Principal at Veryst Engineering.  Dr. Oliver has expertise in the materials science, solid mechanics, and failure analysis of engineering materials, including adhesives.  He applies his knowledge of chemical and microstructural characterization, mechanical testing, and finite element analysis to issues of materials selection, mechanical design, and root cause determination of material failures.  Prior to joining Veryst, Dr. Oliver developed new adhesives for the electronics packaging industry at the Dow Chemical Company.  He holds a Ph.D. from the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Stanford University.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the commonly used approaches for modeling adhesives with FEA
  • Identify which experiments to run for both continuum and cohesive zone model calibration
  • Know how to validate the accuracy of material models
